As they say, the root of every disease is in mind and our outer stresses can significantly affect our internal mind, it’s necessary to start the care and cure from the core within.

Introducing holistic side of medicine

Holistic health or medicine refers to a wide variety of healthcare practices originating from various countries and cultures. They include practices like aroma therapy, acupuncture, yoga, herbs, vitamin therapy, nutrition, exercise, reiki, reflexology, polarity and many, many other therapies. The word holistic comes from “the whole.” It means to take a person as a whole being. The Chinese and Indian healing systems see a person, not just as a physical body, but as a body-mind-spirit. Their healing practices allow for all parts of the person and treat all parts equally. They have methodologies for solving problems in all three areas, and especially for finding problems that crisscross between body, mind and spirit (which most health problems do).

Definition: Holistic health refers to considering the body as a whole when trying to maintain health or use corrective health solutions. According to Canadian Holistic Medical Association, holistic health can be defined as follows:

“Holistic medicine is a system of health care which fosters a cooperative relationship among all those involved, leading towards optimal attainment of the physical, mental emotional, social and spiritual aspects of health.” Holistic health emphasizes the need to look at the whole person, including analysis of physical, nutritional, environmental, emotional, social, and spiritual and lifestyle values. It encompasses all stated modalities of diagnosis and treatment including drugs and surgery if no safe alternative exists. Holistic medicine focuses on education and responsibility for personal efforts to achieve balance and well being.

How it works

Holistic solution doesn't mean providing everything needed at once, and it doesn't mean correcting everything at once. It only means that you're considering the needs of the whole body at once. So when you're providing a holistic service, remedy, nutritional, etc., it will benefit certain aspects of the body and will do no harm elsewhere in the body. And of course by correcting one aspect of the body, that aspect then starts to do its job correctly, which affects other aspects of the body, and there is a positive spill-out effect.

The key difference between traditional medicine (pharmaceutical medicine) and holistic approach Comparing this with pharmaceuticals, an antibiotic may kill certain bacteria in the body that are causing symptomatic problems; but it's also going to kill beneficial life in the body, which leads to other problems. A holistic approach to bacteria would be to find the cause of the bacteria and to remove that cause (while possibly strengthening the body's ability to kill off the harmful bacteria in its own way). A holistic approach to healing goes beyond just eliminating symptoms. For example, taking an aspirin for a headache would be like disconnecting the oil light on the dash of a car when it flashes. The irritation is eliminated, but the real problem still exists. In holistic medicine, a symptom is considered a message that something needs attention. So, the symptom is used as a guide to look below the surface for the root cause. Then what really needs attention can be addressed.
